As principal, and on behalf of the staff and administration, I would like to welcome everyone to the 2019-20 school year at Urbana High School. We are thrilled to have the noise and excitement of students filling the classrooms and hallways with the promise of a productive and successful school year.
With the 2019-20 school year, Urbana High School has reached our long-term goal of one-to-one technology devices for students to support academic instruction. Through the 1:1 initiative, each and every student will have an individual Chromebook available to them for their academic needs.
We know that technology is only a small portion of what is needed for academic success. We are dedicated to meeting the academic, social and emotional needs of our students culminating in on-time graduation and being prepared for the expectations of post-secondary education, meaningful careers, and civic/community engagement.
Our teachers are tasked with developing strong relationships with students within supportive, welcoming and respectful classrooms, setting high attainable expectations with appropriate supports, planning and creating engaging lessons and activities, assessing and analyzing results to plan for reteaching, intervention, enrichment and future learning for students, and communicating in a professional and timely manner.
Throughout the year, we expect our students to set high attainable goals, work hard, study and complete tasks, maintain an open mind for learning, persevere through difficult times, be courteous and respectful to others and communicate in a positive and productive manner. These expectations are communicated through our PBIS Core Values of “Own It” (Take pride in what you do), “Do the Work” (Work hard and overcome adversity) and “Respect” (Do what’s right).
We encourage parents/guardians to work with us in making this a productive and successful school year for your child. Some examples of opportunities include being informed (school website, newsletters, Pre-K12 Notification, Remind, mailings), keeping up-to-date and involved with academic performance (Parent Access, Report Cards, communication with staff through Remind, email, phone calls), attending academic and co-curricular events (PBL exhibition nights, parent-teacher conferences, fine arts performances, FFA/DECA events, just to name a few) and attending your child’s extra-curricular and/or sporting events.
If at any time you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me through Remind at @urbanahig, email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling the school office at 937-653-1412.
I am honored to serve the students, staff, and parents of Urbana High School and look forward to another wonderful school year.
