The Urbana City Schools Board of Education is pleased to announce the hiring of Mrs. Carla Shaw as the next Superintendent of Urbana City Schools. The Board approved her appointment during a special meeting on May 1, 2026.
Mrs. Shaw currently serves as the Assistant Superintendent of London City Schools, where she has built a strong reputation as a collaborative leader, a student centered decision-maker, and an advocate for academic excellence.
“I am honored to serve as Superintendent of Urbana City Schools,” said Shaw. “I am looking forward to partnering with students, staff, families, and the community to build on the district’s strengths and ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed.”
The search process, conducted with the assistance of K12 Business Consulting, attracted a highly qualified pool of applicants. Finalists participated in a rigorous, multi step interview and engagement process designed to ensure the best possible fit for the Urbana community, its students, and the district’s long term priorities. Throughout the process, Mrs. Shaw distinguished herself as a leader ready to guide the district with clarity, compassion, and a deep commitment to student success.
Board President Darrell Thomas commented on the selection: “We are excited and proud to welcome Carla to our Hillclimber family. Her experience, vision, and steady leadership will serve our district well as we continue building on the strong foundation already in place.”
The Board extends its sincere appreciation to the many stakeholders who contributed to this important decision, including staff, families, students, and community members. Their engagement, feedback, and partnership were invaluable in helping shape the future of Urbana City Schools.
Mrs. Shaw will begin her transition into the role in the coming weeks and is expected to officially assume her duties on August 1, 2026. The Board looks forward to working alongside her to continue advancing opportunities for every student in Urbana.
